Reasons for blue
- Blue is the hopeful choice
If enough people choose blue, nobody dies. So blue feels like the “good society” button.
- It is a vote for humanity
Pressing blue says, “I believe most people will try to save everyone, not just themselves.”
- If too many people choose red out of fear, the blue people die
So blue voters might think: “Someone has to be brave enough to make blue win.”
- It feels morally cleaner
Blue is not about protecting only yourself. It is about trying to reach the outcome where everyone survives.
Reasons for red
- Red guarantees your survival
If more than 50% press blue, everyone survives, including red voters.
If less than 50% press blue, only red voters survive.
So red survives in both main outcomes.
- Blue only survives if blue wins
A blue voter is safe only if enough other people also choose blue. That makes blue the risky option.
- Red is the self-preservation choice
A red voter might say, “I hope blue wins, but I’m not betting my life on strangers making the same choice.”
- It exposes the free-rider problem
Red voters benefit from blue voters if blue wins, but do not share the same risk if blue loses.
